Hollywood Poker Open Main Event 2014 S2

Thursday June 26th I leave for the HPO Main Event at the M Resort in Las Vegas. The $2500 buy in is the biggest yet for me.  I was staked to this event at a pretty bad percentage. Now I have to decide if I want to buy any more of my own action.

I’ve run really good in 3 of the Regional Events. Can it continue?

6/26/14 Leave today for Hollywood Poker Open. Got great airfare on Maru Airplane_catBought 40% of my action but busted out in level 10 late Friday night. AJo v 36CC. Flop J 4 5, I flopped top pair, villian had an open ender. My 8,000 bet couldn’t get him off and a 7 on the turn straightened him out.

I shoved the turn and he called.

Borgota Poker Open Summer Seniors 2014

Woke up, got out of bed…… Surfing PokerAtlas and saw the Borgata Seniors is tomorrow. Quick check of my comps and I see I can get a free room, so off to AC.

So a day at relaxing by the pool and poker on Tuesday.

Chipped up early with some gig flops on the BB. Was chip leader for about the first 7 or 8 levels and had 3 to4x average for a lot of the tourney.

With about 35 left, out of 137 total I got moved to a table with a young man who was obviously not 50+. I doubt his mom was 50. Typical 20 something, multi-tabling on his tablet and raising constantly.

poker_helmetThe second young man was first out ITM for a min cash. Several people at the table rode him hard.  Why anyone enters an event they are not eligible for is beyond me. It disrespects the game and all the players. Karma will get even.

We got to the final table around 9 pm, 11 hours after the start. Played for 4 more hours before busting out 3rd for a pretty nice cash.

It was a tough final table with most of players having some great recent results.

Larry Ohalloran was coming off 3 straight victories according to the Hendon Mob

Sam Keyrouze won the event in November 2013.

Legends Classic Series Binions Las Vegas

I posted a trip report on twoplustwo so I’m going to just repost it here.

6/3 Headed to Vegas on Friday 6/6 to play the Binions Legends Classic. Hope the over 45 is a softer field than WSOP.

Anyone played Binions before? Hoping for 400+, have no idea if that’s realistic.

My hotel The Four Queens

My hotel The Four Queens

Suggestions for other MTT of $200-$350 buy in are appreciated.

6/8  Made it to LV, had some jet lag so went to bed without placing a bet, probably a violation of city ordinance but…..

Binions had the room set up in back with 17 tables, a few were in another room as day 1a clocked 277 runners? walkers?

JJ Liu was in the room fresh off a big score in Macua, TJ Cloutier was at the table behind me several other pros in attendance.

Started with 20k in chips and a great structure. Was chipping up, taking a few blinds from the button, playing a few premium hands. No need to get crazy early in the tourney.

Got AA cracked in level 5 and lost 1/2 the stack but still had 100+ bigs. 3 bet w/AKo right before the second break. Cbet a 9 8 2 board and the villian came over the top. Knew I was behind but I’m sorta commited. Called and she had a set of 8’s.

2925 left and I’m the big blind, 3 limpers I shove dark, figure I can play 1b on Sunday and go have dinner with some friends who are headed home Sunday. AKo calls, I have JJ. Doubled up.

Chipped up from there, got moved a few times in balances and breaking tables. Last table of the night had average stack, big stacks everywhere and they are banging heads like we’re in the money.

Ended day 1a with 105k, return to 1000 3000/6000. Might need to do some shoving right off the bat.

Overall, good structure, well run for the most part. Talking about hands and showing cards was going on at most of the tables.

Probably play Venetian today and formulate a game plan for Monday. Shove it first 4 hands w/ ATC?

Just shove it!

Just shove it!

6/9 Finished 23/641 for a whopping $565. What a crazy ride.

5th hand of the day I limp in for 6,000 w/ AA BB raises to 20k I reraise to 40, he shoves I call. Quick double up.

Was above avg to avg for the next 5 levels.

Now the cooler story. I have about 310,000 when the villain goes all in for 217k, I’m the BB w/ AK, he has KK…. oops. Next hand I’m the SB, folds around to me, I have QQ, so I shove. BB calls w/ KK. Now I have 9k left at 12k/24k w/ 3k ante. I shove my puny stack dark, get 1 caller I have KK, win that now I have about 85k.

Next hand I shove w/ AK, no callers. Next hand I shove again w/ KK, no callers. But now I have about 175k. Fold a few hands then shove K4s from the cu and the BB has AA.

So goes the Legends Classic! Time for a steak a few beers and pick a tourney for Tuesday.

Hollywood Poker Open Columbus

After winning back to back seniors events in the HPO series I was very excited to play the Columbus Hollywood Poker Open Seniors for a try at a hat trick.

The schedule came out in early/mid April and had a seniors, PLO and woman’s events. Just like all the rest of the HPO Regionals.  About a week later I noticed the schedule had been changed. No Seniors. No Woman’s. No PLO.

I decided to make the 6 hour drive anyway and possibly win a seat for the HPO Main Event at the M Resort in Las Vegas.

The first event 5/16-17 was a 2 day $450 buy in.  331 runners competed over the 2 days. I made it until the second break.

Monday 5/19 was a $235 NLHE event that got 128 participants. We chopped the money 5 ways for $3749. I ended up 4th for the quest for the trophy.  I busted out when I called an all in with AKo vs A9o.  gray_donkey_ glasses little

Which ironically they had no trophies! Didn’t arrive in time. WTF?

Tuesday was another $235 and they paid 13. Finished 12th for a min cash.

Wednesday I played another $235, got schooled by local pro Shawn Cunix and bubbled. I was 4th on the leaderboard 4 points out of first and had decided if I cashed and got points I would continue to play.

Borgata Poker Open Spring Seniors 2014

I’m writing this several months after the fact and remember very little of the tournament. I had an uneventful tournament and went out pretty early.

Played 2 $140 daily’s for a min cash and a bubble.

Saw James Woods at the Seniors event and thought he must be in the area or be  a local. Wrong. Turns out he’s  a tournament grinder.

He has a little over $100,000 in cash’s and seems pretty active based on his Hendon Mob.

Hollywood Poker Open Charlestown 2014

Coming off a trophy win at Penn National I was focused on the Seniors at Charlestown.  I had met Lee Childs at Penn National and was very interested in picking his brain about some obvious leaks in my game.

A google search revealed that Lee runs a coaching program called Inside The Minds.   Lee was offering a 1 day course the week before the Hollywood Poker Open so I signed up.  The class was a small group of 5 of us and revealed some great information and insight into plugging my leaks and capitalizing on situations.

I had chipped up early and was playing position and situation to my advantage when I shoved all in against 5 limpers from the button with a 47o. Oops, 2 callers and my stack was crushed.

I thought I was covered and got up and left the table. The floor ran me down in the lobby and said I still had chips. I returned to 2100 in chips, I was the big blind and the ante of 300 left me 100 short of the BB. I got 6 callers and won the hand. Folded my SB and shoved and won on the button against 2 callers. I had chips again.

From there I continued to grow my stack and got to the final table as chip leader.

Stack on right is average.

Stack on right is average.

Kept my stack in tact down to 5 players when the eventual runner up knocked out 3 players to take the chip lead. Head’s up went really quick. I turned up the aggro meter and he folded his way to 2nd place. me_cards_hpo

On to Columbus!

Hollywood Poker Open Penn National 2014

I was very excited about the HPO coming to Penn National. I play daily’s there 3-5 times per week and hoped to take down an event in my home poker room.

Played the first event, busted out early when my AKo ran into AA.   A K high flop got me in trouble. When the beating stoped i had bled off  a lot of chips.

On to my second event. The Seniors.  This is the one I was really shooting for and steady play and a favorable flop with KK v AA paved the way for a trophy.

Played the Bounty tournament for a 7th place cash and standing on the leaderboard.

The Hollywood Poker Open moved to St Louis which was a little to far to travel. However the next stop was Charlestown, only 1.5 hours away. I wanted another Seniors trophy.
